THE BRIEF:

Spirit House Interiors is a holistic home organizing and decluttering business that serves overworked, stressed women who long for homes that support them mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Many of our clients want to declutter but hate the idea of throwing things away and being wasteful. We would like to feature a blog post that educates them on alternatives to trashing their unwanted items.

THE TASK:

Write a blog post outlining these 5 ways to declutter your home without dumping everything in the trash and contributing to landfills. Include resource links targeted for readers in the USA so they can easily explore suggestions.

Offer items on Buy Nothing, FreeCycle, Trash Nothing and other online sites (especially things you wouldn't normally be able to donate, like food, beauty products, etc)

Textile recycling programs for old clothes, towels, sheets (H&M, Zara, bring old towels and sheets to Humane Society locations, etc).

Local charities that take specific items (ex. furniture for refugee housing set-ups, business clothing for women re-entering the workforce after abuse or addiction, etc)

E-waste recycling programs for old electronics (often offered through local government and municipal programs, as well as store likes Staples and Best Buy)

Get organized! This will help you stop overbuying and accepting things into your space that don't support your vision for your home, meaning you won't have to declutter nearly as much in the future

THE LENGTH: 600-900 words

THE TONE: feminine, caring, humorous, down-to-earth, compassionate, understanding

The blog should be written in 1st person to reflect our casual, down-to-earth brand voice.

THE BLOG

Do you feel overwhelmed by clutter in your home but want to avoid contributing to landfills?

I completely understand! Here at Spirit House Interiors, we believe in environmentally conscious decluttering, so I've put together some tips on decluttering without adding to the waste problem.

First of all, when you're decluttering, don't just throw everything in the trash. Instead, try offering items on websites like Buy Nothing, FreeCycle, and Trash Nothing. This way, someone in your local community can use items you no longer need. You might be surprised at how many people look for things you no longer want, like half-used beauty products or unopened food items.

Secondly, if you have old textiles like clothes, towels, or no longer usable sheets, consider textile recycling programs. Retailers like H&M and Zara often offer these programs, as well as local organisations like the Humane Society, which accept old towels and sheets for animal bedding.

Another way to declutter responsibly is by donating specific items to local charities. For instance, you could donate furniture to organizations that help refugees set up their new homes or donate business clothing to organizations that help women re-enter the workforce after abuse or addiction.

Electronic waste is a huge problem, but you don't have to contribute when decluttering! Look for e-waste recycling programs offered by your local government or municipal programs and retailers like Staples and Best Buy. These programs will ensure that your old electronics are disposed of safely and responsibly.

Finally, getting organized is one of the best ways to declutter responsibly. When you have a clear vision of your home and what you want in it, you'll be less likely to bring in items that you don't need or want, which means you'll have less clutter to deal with in the future.

At Spirit House Interiors, a clutter-free home is a happy home. We’re here for you if you're struggling with clutter and need help getting organized, we're here for you. Head to our website to learn more about our holistic home organizing and decluttering services.

Remember, by following these tips, you can declutter your home without contributing to the waste problem. Let's care for our planet while creating the house we envision.
